POLICE work is VALUE work: this is more than just the name of a series of events or even a slogan. The employees of the NRW police have proven this over the past year and a half. In almost all district police authorities in NRW, they have filled the series of events with life through their ideas, their commitment and their ideas.
The focus of the diverse events was on reflecting on important values for the performance of police duties. The starting point for the series was the Center for Ethical Education and Pastoral Care (ZeBuS) of the NRW police, which is anchored in the NRW State Office for Training, Further Education and Personnel Affairs (LAFP) of the NRW police.
Police employees from all over NRW have asked themselves the important question of what significance values have for their areas of work and how important a strong code of values is. Each police authority implemented this in individual formats and selected values such as trust, respect, openness, diversity and responsibility for themselves. And although the answers were varied, they all came to the same conclusion: Values are essential to our actions.
LAFP Director Frücht: "Values are the basis of our decisions"
On September 8, POLIZEIarbeit ist WERTEarbeit made a stop at the LAFP NRW in Selm - and also marked the end of the series throughout the state. The implementation of the event was developed by employees of LAFP NRW and dealt with the value "appreciation", which was chosen within the authority, and its various aspects.
NRW Minister of the Interior Reul: "Value orientation is lived in the NRW police"
In addition to discussing the value of the LAFP NRW, the employees - together with the NRW Minister of the Interior, Herbert Reul, among others - summed up the series of events.
"The police are a role model organization for people. It is therefore all the more important that the values of our society - justice, respect, appreciation - are visibly lived by them. We have to stand up every day and show that this democracy is what we want it to be. Show our colors. Show attitude. This is exactly what the NRW police do. One thing is also clear: just because we call it a closing event, today is not the end - we are right in the middle of it. Because values work never ends," says Reul.
"At a time when the challenges facing our society are more complex than ever, the importance of values is becoming ever clearer," said LAFP Director Christine Frücht. "Our values are the basis of our decisions and actions - be it on the road, in joint training and further education events or in our dealings with each other within the authorities."
Values as the foundation of police work
However, the colleagues not only came together to look back on what has been achieved in terms of the values work of the NRW police, but also to take a look into the future. "A future in which our shared values form the foundation of our police work and our life together," said Christine Frücht.
Looking ahead was also the focus of the concluding panel discussion, which was attended by Herbert Reul, employees of IM NRW, LAFP NRW and other district police authorities.
Because one thing is clear: the topic of value orientation in the NRW police does not end with this final event. It is a further milestone in anchoring values even more deeply and jointly shaping a future in which respect, empathy and appreciation characterize cooperation even more strongly.
